ABOUT US

The purpose of the the organization is to educate people about ways to prevent chronic kidney disease and to dispel any myths about the living donor process. We would like to save as many lives as possible.

After Ron Springs' successful kidney transplantation from Everson Walls, the two partnered to form the foundation with the goal of providing education, early detection and prevention of chronic Kidney disease; to build awareness and educate minorities on the donor process; and to provide access to services and education in underserved communities across the US.

Having personally gone through the process of trying to find a kidney donor and the effects of kidney disease, Ron knows first hand that pockets of our community do not understand the living donor process and how easy it is to become a donor. It has become his passion to not only educate potential donors but to help teach the community how to prevent kidney disease.

According to the Southwest Transplant Alliance, there are currently 69,604 people awaiting kidney transplants in the U.S. Of these, approximately one-third are black, more than double the size of the next ethnic group. This is largely due to the fact that diabetes affects the African American population at a higher rate than Caucasians, and the problem is compounded because there are fewer minority donors. Springs and Walls hope to inspire others in two ways - first, by encouraging people to get tested for diabetes and second, to encourage them to become living donors because demand for organs far outweighs the supply.

The Ron Springs and Everson Walls Gift for Life Foundation is a Texas-based 501C3 organization. For more information or to make a donation you may visit the foundation's web site at www.GiftforLifeFoundation.org or email us at info@giftforlifefoundation.org.
