Recently, former Dallas Cowboys teammates and best friends Ron Springs and Everson Walls shared more than their friendship…they shared the organ donor process by sharing with the world their story.
On March 2, 2007, Springs and Everson shared with the world the successful transplantation of Springs kidney from Walls during a press conference at Medical City Dallas. During the press conference, the two shared that Springs’ fight with diabetes resulted in the need for a kidney transplant; the ease of the process; and the short recovery period that the donor has to go through.
To further educate the minority community, the two have partnered to form a foundation with the goal of providing opportunities for children to attend Camp Reynal – a one-week camp designed for children who suffer from kidney failure and kidney disease; to build awareness and educate minorities on the donor process; to build awareness of illnesses that cause chronic kidney disease; and provide blood pressure and diabetes testing.
